Competition law is law which seeks to promote competition and prohibit unfair trade practices in the marketplace, and usually encompasses antitrust and consumer protection laws.

Antitrust

Antitrust laws tries to combat monopolies and other economic distortions in the marketplace. E.g., such laws might typically prohibit unfair business practices.

Consumer protection

Consumer protection laws search to regulate certain aspects of the commercial relationship between consumers and business, such as by requiring minimal standards of product quality, requiring a disclosure of certain details about the product or even service (eg. using regard to dollars and cents, or even implied warranties), or prescribing fiscal compensation for product liability.
